Visit to Chaumont on September 16th, 2004

On September 16th, we went to Chaumont to visit a garden exhibition which takes place from May to October. The gardens are displayed in a branch-shaped design. This year the topic was: chaos.
A garden has drawn my attention. Its name is Fire Stones. This garden is a tribute to Australia. It is composed of a eucalyptus and the red ground is typical of Australian landscapes. This garden shows the chaos very well because the red ground and the burnt trunks make me think of hell. Burnt trunks express big fires in Australia. It is very impressive because I can imagine the size of fires and the damage done.
I like this garden because I like the expression of fire and I like fire and flames. The ground made of laterite and the burnt trunks express chaos and is a sign showing that there isn't apparently any possible new growth. This garden is simple but expresses many things.

My favourite garden is called "A tous ceux qui rêvent encore". I saw this little garden which appears to me interesting. There was, on the floor, the façade of a house with windows and the door. We could walk on them.
The house still had sand with a lawn which invaded the garden. Plants have invaded the garden too. There was an ornamental lake, we could cross the lake walking on Japanese paving stones. All that shows the aspec of chaos in our mind and in the garden, an impression of disorder. The dream was represented by an effect of irrealism becaurse it's really different from reality. We can also think that it represents the future in a dream where the human population could be destroyed.
